This picturesque little village is the haunt of artists and anglers, many of whom have stayed in the attractive local inn where, in the dining room can be seen a collection of landscapes by George Constable, brother of the famous John.

Fittleworth is dominated by the Church of St.Mary, which stands proudly on top of a hill. The church was subject to extensive renovation work in the 19th-century, fortunately though, it's two medieval bells have been retained, they date from the 14th and 15th-centuries.

This is a quiet, peaceful place, it is a wooded area close to the River Rother. The pleasant narrow lanes are interspersed with delightful stone cottages, and should you chance to take the lane that leads northwards through the woodland hills, you will pass quarries near where charcoal burners once worked. Hidden away, deep in these woods, is a cottage named 'Brinkwells' said to have been the one time home, of the great composer, Sir Edward Elgar. This is not surprising, the countryside here is so beautiful, and Elgar would have drawn much inspiration as he trod the lonely woods.
